Charles Sidney Cheston (1882-1960), a river landscape with a tree lined river bank.
Watercolour on paper. There is an unsigned pencil sketch depicting Dinan, in France, verso.
Cheston was an etcher and painter. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, and was vice president of the Royal Watercolour Society, in 1950.
He and other artists took a consignment of their pictures to Japan, in 1931, where the held a large exhibition.
He lived at Polstead, Suffolk, near Colchester, in Essex.
Provenance: previously in the collection of Gilbert Davis.
