Brown was an Official War Artist during World War II, registered with the Ford Motor Company in Trafford Park, Manchester. He was a life member of the Manchester Athenaeum Graphic Club. He also showed at Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Cambrian Academy and with the MAFA.
He was born in Brighton, Sussex, and brought up in Hull where he attended the School of Art, before furthering his studies at Manchester School of Art and studying in Milan, Italy.
