Alan Runagall (b1941), a framed watercolour study of Thames barges on Maldon’s Blackwater Estuary, mid morning.
The Thames barges are sailing for Mersea Island to the left of the picture, past St Lawrence Bay, Maldon. Bradwell Waterside and Yacht Club in the foreground to the right. Mid morning clouds break over the Blackwater Estuary to light the sky in sunbeams, with a streak of white light illuminating the distant waters.
The watercolour is signed lower right, and has an old exhibition label verso dated August 25 1997, stating exhibited at Old Hythe Quay Maldon. Interestingly it has been framed in a thin gold frame, which suits the painting perfectly. The frame measures about 45 x 35 cm. The artist's picture on Saunders Waterford paper measures about 30 x 20 cm.
Runagall, exhibits were mainly in Essex, London and East Anglia and also at the Lincoln Joyce gallery in Surrey. He won the St. Cuthberts ‘Best Watercolour‘ award at the RSMA annual exhibition in 2002. He won a similar award at the Essex Open exhibition at the Beecroft art gallery in Southend. He has had work purchased by the Port of London Authority, Port of Tilbury London Ltd, Southend Museums Service and by various shipping companies.
Alan worked for the Port of London Authority in the West India Docks, Millwall Dock, and Tilbury Docks for all of his working life until 1996, where his passion and knowledge of ships, tugs and small working craft were crafted.
A certificate of authenticity is included. Also included for free is an exclusive accompanying booklet on The Stephen Neale Art Collection, as well a short biography of Alan Runagall.
